A Journey Through India's Ancient and Sacred Rivers is Worth Taking

We often discuss various places in India in this segment. While we insist on traveling abroad, we remain unaware of many beautiful places in our own country. These days, the craze for going abroad has increased so much that instead of seeing the beautiful places in India, tourists prefer to travel abroad first if they have a budget. The common thought among all of us is that if we are spending one and a half to two lakhs, then why not go to Thailand or Maldives? We can get a foreign country stamp on the passport, show off, my friend, show off. Anyway, if we are talking about different places in our country, then today let's also talk about the ancient and sacred rivers of our country. While we go to the banks of the Ganges to wash away our sins, there are many other rivers which are extremely beautiful, ancient and sacred. However, now that the importance of Narmada Parikrama in Gujarat is increasing, let's also talk about some of the rivers that can be specifically visited.

Indus River

The Indus River is mentioned in Indian texts. It is also one of the sacred rivers of India. As a matter of fact, every river is sacred, the water of which sustains life is indeed called sacred. Anyway, the Indus River flows through Pakistan, China and India. The Indus Valley Civilization flourished on the banks of this river. The Indus is also mentioned in the oldest Vedic text, the Rigveda, which shows the early times and its importance in Hindu culture. The length of this river is 1976 miles.

Narmada River

A river whose water provides water to many villages of Gujarat. Flowing in the central part of India, this river is considered to be one of the five sacred rivers of India. Gujaratis prefer to go to Narmada instead of Ganga to wash away their sins. Narmada Parikrama has special significance among Hindus. It is considered equivalent to a pilgrimage. The Narmada River originates from the north-eastern part of the Satpura mountains and flows through Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

Ganga River

The Ganges is the most famous and sacred river in India. Originating from the Himalayas and merging into the Bay of Bengal, this river is considered a symbol of purity. That is why Hindus try to visit Ganga for a bath at least once in their entire life. It is believed that bathing in the Ganges washes away all sins and leads to salvation. It is said that Ganga Mata descended on earth to purify the cursed souls of King Bhagirath's ancestors. This river passes through many cities like Rishikesh, Haridwar, Kanpur, Jajmau, Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Banaras, Ghazipur, Buxar, Ballia, Patna, Hajipur, Munger and Bhagalpur. However, even today people go to Rishikesh and Haridwar more for Ganga bath. Yet, you can also go to the rest of the cities to see the beauty of this river.

Godavari River

Godavari is also considered one of the longest rivers in India. Apart from that, there is the Krishna River which originates from the mountains of Mahabaleshwar. The name of Lord Krishna is associated with the Krishna River, hence it is considered worshipable among us. After that comes the Kaveri River, which flows in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. All the rivers mentioned here are also extremely beautiful. The Indian government is doing a lot of development around it, so now it is becoming easier to travel to these rivers.

Yamuna River

Along with Ganga, its companion and helper, the second longest river is the Yamuna River. Yamuna also has a special place in Hindu scriptures. Lord Krishna's childhood was spent on the banks of this river, hence devotees have special affection for Yamuna. It is said that bathing in this river removes the negativity within us. This river flows through Delhi, Mathura, Agra, Etawah and Prayagraj.
