Last week, we discussed Elephant Falls, Sweet Falls, Rainbow Falls, and Wah Kaba Falls. Now, let's talk about other beautiful falls in Meghalaya.
Nohkalikai Waterfalls
Nohkalikai Waterfall is India's tallest plunge waterfall, cascading from a height of 1100 feet. The waterfall is named after a Khasi woman named Ka Likai, who tragically jumped off the cliff in grief. While the waterfall is associated with this sorrowful tale, its beauty attracts numerous tourists. Located in Cherrapunji, it's open from 9 AM to 5 PM. The entry fee is ₹120, with separate parking charges.
Beadon (Biaedon) and Bishop Falls
Beadon and Bishop Falls are twin waterfalls offering a double dose of natural beauty. Surrounded by lush greenery, the valley and its cascading waterfalls are serene and picturesque. The white water plunging into the valley and the surrounding greenery provide a soothing experience. Bishop Falls is the taller of the two. Conveniently located, it doesn't require extensive travel from the city. Photography is highly recommended here, and there's no entry fee.
Seven Sisters Waterfalls
Seven Sisters Falls, also known as Nohsngithiang Falls, is one of Meghalaya's most iconic waterfalls. Particularly during the monsoon, when all segments are visible, it descends over a rugged limestone cliff in seven distinct streams, creating a curtain of water across the landscape. The beauty of this place is immense.
Krinolin Falls
Krinolin Falls is a popular destination in Meghalaya. Visitors can enjoy bathing in the waterfall's pool. It has shallow areas suitable for swimming, and its beauty is captivating. It's an ideal spot for picnics, accessible via a short hike. Open from 6:30 AM to 5 PM.
Mawsawa Falls
Away from the crowds, Mawsawa Falls is a tranquil and scenic spot. It resembles milk cascading over rocks. It's a popular picnic spot, boasting stunning natural beauty. It's easily accessible without much hiking, making it suitable for all ages. Considered an offbeat waterfall in Meghalaya, it's free from crowds. Located in Cherrapunji, it's open from 9 AM to 5 PM. Entry fee is ₹50 for adults and ₹20 for children.
Wei Sawdong Falls
Wei Sawdong Falls is renowned for its appearance and turquoise pools. Accessing it requires navigating a narrow, adventurous trail for about 1.5 hours, known for its steep and narrow path.
This place is also scenic. It's open from 8 AM to 5 PM, with no entry fee. It's located in Cherrapunji.
